Considering the numerous displays of the perpetual calendar, A. Lange & Söhne designed the calendar complication in a way that the different indications can be set individually – using the integrated pushers in the side of the case, as seen in the image above – plus, there is one main pusher with which all indications can be set simultaneously. While this certainly is not as elegant a solution as that of the Kurt Klaus perpetual of IWC – where the perpetual calendar can be set through the crown – the large date, the accuracy of the moon phase, and the thinness of the movement surely compensate for this design.

We are pretty excited about this new IWC Portugieser Annual Calendar watch which debuts with the IW503501, IW503502, IW503504 references. For SIHH 2015, IWC will dedicate their focus the brand's iconic Portuguese collection with a range of new models - even though until this point, the new watches that IWC has thus far announced are in the Portofino collection. This includes the new IWC Portofino Mid-Size for women as well as the attractive and simple IWC Portofino Hand-Wound Pure Classic watch. The only new actual Portuguese collection watch for 2015 that we've seen is the IWC Portuguese Annual Calendar, and it boasts an impressive new movement, dial layout, and perhaps some hints about where IWC is going in 2015.

All of the Zenith Pilot Type 20 GMT watches come in 48mm wide cases, and two of them currently come in titanium cases, while the non-limited edition model comes in a polished steel case. First, there was the Black Baron model in DLC coated titanium, and this 1903 version also has a black DLC coated titanium case. Unlike the Black Baron model (that was limited to 500 pieces), the 1903 model has hour markers and hands with luminant that has been artificially aged. The 1903 also comes on a custom bund-style leather strap.

Omega has been mighty impressive lately, releasing watches that are not only aesthetically attractive but also technically competent. One of their biggest announcements this year at Baselworld was its new Master Co-axial movement. Any Omega watch with this movement is virtually anti-magnetic, and not only that, comes with a longer than average warranty. And in this roundup, we will be taking a closer look at Omega’s new Aqua Terra Master Co-Axial watches, which have been fitted with this new movement.

ABTW: When did your fascination with watches start?

To further the point, a couple of weeks ago, my company was exhibiting at a legal industry tradeshow in Las Vegas. During the setup, I spotted Alan making a beeline for us. “Hey Scott, check this out...” With a scoff, he pulls back his cuff to reveal a brand new, totally over-the-top-gaudy Daytona with a leopard skin dial – some folks refer to it as “The Steven Tyler,” the lead singer of famous rock band, Aerosmith.

Many Russian-made watch movements were copies of other designs, which of course wasn't uncommon for the era. The Soviet Union was responsible for producing timepieces for its people, which was an important part of daily life. A particular interest for Russian watch makers was durability and dependability. Because resources were scant, it was important to produce timepieces that required as little service as possible. In many instances they were perhaps not as accurate as Swiss or American watches, but they might last longer between service times. Think of the AK-47 rifle, and its goal of being like a tank and able to put up with a lot while still firing. As I understand it, a similar mentality was applied to the design of Russian mechanical watch movements.

One of the reasons that the brand refers to the Gustafsson & Sjogren Bifrost Isbla as a dress watch is because of its relatively smaller size. Most GoS watches are about 44mm wide, while the Bifrost collection will be a bit smaller at just 42.5mm wide. That still isn't small, but it should make the Gustafsson & Sjogren Bifrost more wearable as a dress piece with a suit. At 9.5mm thick, the Gustafsson & Sjogren Bifrost is, more importantly, relatively thin.

Case and strap:
– 18k red gold case (also available in 18k white gold)
– Sapphire crystal traversed by embedded gold bezel bridge framing tourbillon cage
– Lateral sapphire window in case band for power reserve indicator
– Dimensions: 42mm x 14.6mm
– Water resistance: 30m/100’/3ATM
– Dial: Translucent glass and sapphire crystal with enameled minutes and seconds
– Strap and clasp: hand stitched alligator strap with gold pin buckle matching case. Brown leather with red gold case or black leather with white gold case

The surfaces of the movement bridges are brushed while the edges are beveled making for a fine, albeit much more simple look as compared to the effect we saw on the Armin Strom One Week Skeleton. Honestly, the real difference between the Armin Strom Skeleton Pure and One Week Skeleton is the decorations on the skeletonized movement surfaces. The One Week Skeleton is part of a more limited edition (of just 50 pieces) with the patterns and fine details, while the Armin Strom Skeleton Pure is available as two limited editions of 100 pieces, with the same style of movement skeletonization but without the decorative features - though there is still a lot of hand polishing.

The SBGA109 pays tribute to the introduction of the Seiko Spring Drive 9R in many ways. To start, the dial's pattern is symbolic of the Japanese kanji symbol for the number ten, which looks similar to a cross or "+" sign. This criss crossed pattern also narrows towards the center of the dial expressing a look of an actual "10" as the smaller squares meet the larger ones.  Spread across this grid-type pattern are small "GS" logos. They are quite subtle, but once exposed to light at the right angle, can easily be seen. At the 10 minute marker, you will instead find the Grand Seiko lion logo, again expressing the 10th Anniversary of the Seiko Spring Drive 9R.

While A. Lange & Söhne says that "the two models symbolize the significance of spending time together," and that they are, "like two harmonizing voices in a duet," I wish the splendid opportunity of the A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1's 20th anniversary was used to transmit a less cheesy and generic message, but rather something more closely related to the importance of this model in the company's history. The two pieces could have connected the past and the future of the brand, or offered some other comprehension of the model's role and the different versions we have seen over the years.

Eterna has shown us this blue and red dialed version of the Eterna Royal KonTiki Chronograph GMT - which I have a feeling is not the only version. It is distinctive and helps people remember this interesting watch. I look forward to seeing what I hope are a few more timeless dial options. It is good to see that Eterna continues to focus on interesting movements, which in my experience, is also accompanied by great quality cases and overall fit and finish. The 2015 Eterna Royal KonTiki Chronograph GMT watch will have a retail price of 7,500 Swiss Francs (7,550 Euros). eterna.com

As much of a cliché as it is, we will begin with this note: we are living in the age of the "cyber revolution," when the content that we consume, read, watch, and listen to is first and foremost produced and made available in a digital form. Even most of the greatest publications of the world have embraced the digital age by publishing their own websites, iPad apps and whatnot; all in an effort to gain back some of the ground they have lost to the digital age.

The possibilities are only limited by one's imagination, and for every person that has this kind of creativity, there is another watchmaker or company out there that could have the technical skills and resources to collaborate and make a mechanical masterpiece out of it.
